Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek appeared on the show last week.
Arguably the most influential skate shop in the city, San Francisco’s FTC continued its historic achievements with the 2010 version of its “For the Ca$h” contest held earlier in the month. For the event, FTC turned its Haight St. location into a in-door skate park, offering cash prizes to the top contestants, while at the same time bringing together this tight-knit SF community all that much closer. Offered is a recap of the event.
They’d been meaning to work together since the XXL cover, and they finally got together at Tree Sound Studios in Atlanta last month.

Erykah Badu caused a stir over the weekend, when she leaked the official music video for her track, “Window Seat”. For those who haven’t watched it, the singer is fully nude by the end of the clip.
In the new vid, the singer sheds her clothing while walking through downtown Dallas. At the end, when she is totally nude, Badu is shot in the head, falling near the same grassy knoll near where President Kennedy was shot in 1963. Instead of blood, animated words that spell out “groupthink” leak from her head on the sidewalk.
At the beginning, it says the vid is inspired Matt and Kim’s “Lesson Learned” video, in which the duo strip in the middle of Times Square.
“They who play it safe, are quick to assassinate what they don’t understand,” she speaks, off camera. “They move in packs, ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another. They feel more comfortable in groups, less guilt to swallow. They are us. This is what we have become, afraid to respect the individual.”
During the weekend, Badu took to her Twitter account (@FatBellyBella) to explain the Coodie-directed music video, which she says her team filmed in one shot.
“We only had 1 shot to get it right,” Badu wrote. “We didn’t plan the shot. Coodie and I just went raw dog. Too busy lookin for cops and being petrified.”
She later explains that the entire clip of her walking and stripping down took a couple of minutes to film, because they captured it and ran.
“The people caught in the shot were trying hard to ignore me,” Badu tweeted. “Lol, [except] one guy grabbing [my] clothes. … He disappeared. Didn’t have time to look for him or clothes. We ran. It was the peeps off camera yelling.”
According to Badu, the screaming folks off camera were distracting, but she kept it together: “I held my head up and kept moving. … There were children there. I prayed they wouldn’t b traumatized.”
The vid is quite risque, and as a mother, she ran it by everyone in her family — baby’s daddies, her kids, mother, and others — before filming.
“I told Puma (5) my plans. She looked at me with a blank face and replied ‘ok mama. Can I have another pudding?’ ” Badu wrote. “I asked @jayelectronica if I should go [through] with it. He said, ‘IF YOU FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT DO IT — YOU GOT 1 SHOT TO BE ERYKAH.’ ”
The song is off Badu’s new album, New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh, set to drop this week.
Finally the “Exit Through The Gift Shop” movie by Banksy has been officially announced for the United States.
“Exit Through The Gift Shop, will hit theaters in the United States beginning on Friday, April 16th in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Dates for additional cities across the country – including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Atlanta – will be announced soon.
Over the weekend Banksy also released the official “one sheet” poster for the film. New Yorkers and street art fans will recognize the building in the image (and the street art and tags) as the iconic old bank building at Spring and Bowery in Soho.”

Although there have been several fanmade videos of Kanye West’s track “Street Lights” off 808s & Heartbreak circulating the web during the past year, this featured visual has received official approval. Directors Spike Jonez and Jonathan Bensimon chose Tokyo’s luminous facade as the setting for this intriguing clip. Both directors enact a man strolling through Japan’s capital while being haunted by bizarre imagery.
This video celebrates DuckDown records 15 years in business as an independent record label no small feat in the current musical climate. DuckDown continues to put forth quality music from OG’s like Buckshot, Pharoahe Monch and Sean Price to new rising stars like Kidz In the Hall.
Originally they were just the Funky Four – Keith Keith , Sha Rock , KK Rockwell and Rahiem (later of Furious 5 fame). In ‘ 78 Sharock left and Raheim joined the Furious 4 . Lil Rodney C and Jazzy Jeff ( not of Fresh Prince fame ) joined after leaving the Magnificent 7. Sha Rock returned and made the plus one.The crew was originally called the Brothers Disco . The Funky Four are actually another crew that is full of firsts ; for instance the Funky Four plus one were the first mixed gender crew , the first Emcees to perform on Saturday Night Live ( in 80 opening up for Blondie), and first with two djs – Breakout and Baron . In ‘ 79 they dropped ” Rappin And Rockin The House ” on Enjoy records. They signed to Sugarhill records in 1980 and dropped ” Thats The Joint ” … a classic by any standards . They lifted an old break from Taste Of Honey and crafted one of the best rap songs of the era. Next came ” Do you wanna rock ? ” , then ” Feel It ” and after that ” King Heroin ” . By ‘ 83 Lil Rodney C and KK Rockwell had left to form Double Trouble…..and they had a few small parts in the movie Wild Style . Sha Rock joined Lisa Lee from Cosmic Force and formed Us Girls , and they had a small performance in Beat Street. Due to the same politics and lack of industry knowledge that swallowed most first generation rap artists the Funky Four had a shorter career than they should have. Jazzy Jeff sued Jive records in the mid 80s for signing Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff while he was signed with the same name . Jazzy Jeff was the first solo artist signed to Jive /Zomba . Sha Rock is married and she has a daughter who Emcees. Funky 4 are indeed an important brick in the foundation of Hip Hop .
