Audio: DJ Premier x Nas x The Berklee Symphony Orchestra – Regeneration

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestTumblrShare

Preemo, Nas and The Berklee Symphony Orchestra come together to create a track for the RE:GENERATION documentary film project.

DJ Premier was given Classical and began his immersion into the genre with Bruce Adolphe, a former classical music professor at Juilliard. They met at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music not far from DJ Premier’s home in NY. After learning about classical music theory, the inspirations of some of the genre’s most profound composers and how traditional pieces are structured, DJ Premier went out and bought tons of classical symphonies on vinyl to mash up his own creation. We then took that mash-up and orchestrated it for sheet music. In the first step of the actual recording process, DJ Premier partnered with Stephen Webber, a professor and conductor at the Berklee College of Music. Steven taught Premier how to conduct and helped him in studio with the 58-piece Berklee Symphony Orchestra you hear on the track. Of all the takes, the one you hear is the “wild” version (which means they recorded it without the metronome in their headphones) DJ Premier conducted himself. Then DJ Premier brought that instrumental track back home to NY and Nas laid down his rhyme on top of it.

Music Video: Duck Sauce (A-Trak & Armand Van Helden) ‘Big Bad Wolf’

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestTumblrShare

Duck Sauce, the pair comprised of New York producer/DJs A-Trak and Armand Van Helden, deliver an appropriately seasonal treat with the release of the third single and official video from their collaborative project.

With its unstoppable kick drum and feral howl, “Big Bad Wolf” is perfect for Halloween. The video, directed by Keith Schofield, is a shocking behind-the-zipper comedy starring the DJ duo that truly must be seen to be believed.

It follows two regular guys, one working in retail and another flipping burgers, when they are overcome by … the big bad wolf. Both accidently catch a glimpse of unsuspecting women and their bulges go crazy (no homo). When they go to a private place to try to calm themselves down, they take down their pants to reveal the heads of A-Trak and Armand… both howling. Yea, it’s kinda odd.

Then, it cuts to later in the evening, showing both men preparing for a night on the town together. When they find ladies they’re interested in … well, you have to watch to see what happens.

Canadian trio BADBADNOTGOOD teams with Odd Future frontman, Tyler The Creator, for this new music video/jam session-style clip for their collaboration, “Seven.”

In the clip, Tyler goes off on a rant with a chip on his shoulder, taking on his critics and haters. At one point, straight up says “F*** 2DopeBoyz and Nahright”, while praise Hypbeast’s music site, Hypetrak.com. Then, at the end, goes into some weirdo-type state, screaming his final verse.

Pac Div Finally Set To Drop Debut Album, ‘The Div’, In November

FacebookTwitterGoogle+PinterestTumblrShare

After years of building a buzz, Southern Cali trio Pac Div are set to release their debut album, The Div, early next month, via a joint venture with RBC Records.

The group — consisting of two brothers, Like and Mibbs, and long time friend, BeYoung — formed in 2005 while still in high school. However, it began with 11 members, and has since shrank to the three you see now. While most young rappers were under the spell of “microwave” music, these three were doing their hip-hop homework, studying rap’s pioneers, honing their skills and developing their own styles.

From their music to shows to videos, and unique approach to creating, the group proves to showcase undeniable talent in everything they do.

Pac Div’s first mixtape, Sealed for Freshness: The Blend Tape, along with their first video “F.A.T Boys,” was released in 2006 to much critic acclaim. Focusing on their lives as “regular guys” growing up in Southern California, their music resonated with kids from all walks of life. From hipster to hood, there was something everyone could relate to in their sound. This universal appeal began their success and garnered them the attention of numerous major publications such as Billboard, Rolling Stone, The Source, Vibe and XXL.

Following the tape’s release, the group dropped two more mixtapes, Church League Champions and Don’t Mention It, both of which helped them garner a fanbase around the country.

The Div boasts production from No I.D., Swiff D and the group’s very own, Like; and features from long time friends, Bleu Collar, Asher Roth, Casey Veggies, Tiron and Skeme.

The Div drops November 8th.
