Nike has delivered another rendition of the Air Force 1 Duckboot, which in itself sees the hybridization of the iconic basketball sneaker with classic duckboot elements. The upper features a creamy grey panel blended with grainy branding and heel quarter. Made for those with an appreciation for detail, the boot features duckboot-style toe box stitching, crisscross heel stitching topped with mountaineering accents in eyelets, and Starfish orange lacing. A winter-appropriate studded outsole provides plenty of traction and reinforces the hybrid credentials of this shoe. This latest colorway is available now at select stockists.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro ’97 TXT is set to release this February in two new colorways to usher in the spring season. While not overly bright, the two new colorways – Flat Pewter and Squadron Blue – feature hits of Electric Yellow to brighten things up. The leather uppers are complemented by textile paneling at the midfoot, heel and tongue, and a hologram Jordan logo inspired by the Air Jordan 13′s. With encapsulated Air-Sole, these shoes offer more than just good looks. Look for these at select stockists including Nike starting February 2.
Pusha T‘s highly-anticipated Wrath of Caine mixtape is finally upon us after numerous hints at the quality of work listeners could expect. A follow-up to his similarly Biblically-minded Fear of God 2011 offering, the 11-track mixtape ranges from the reggae-inspired “Blocka” to the soul-sampling “I Am Forgiven” – with guest verses from the likes of Rick Ross, French Montana, Troy Ave, Wale and more – and production from Kanye West, Young Chop, the Neptunes and Harry Fraud. Wrath of Caine can be streamed below while fans can expect his album My Name is My Name some time in 2013 on G.O.O.D. Music.
Eddie Huang is back with the latest installment of Fresh Off The Boat. Continuing his travels in Taiwan, this latest segment catches him checking out a very polarizing Taiwanese delicacy, stinky tofu. Sampling the pungent ingredient a variety of ways, Huang showcases the culinary possibilities of the much maligned ingredient. Following the surprisingly delicious looking meal, Huang gets some traditional, and freaky looking, treatments on his back before finally kicking it old school at a tea house. Stay tuned for further episodes.
There’s no denying the acronym YOLO has become a battle cry for both the young and old living life carefree and to the fullest. Nevertheless there have been plenty of documented cases where the idiom “You Only Live Once” has been overused and abused. To shine some light on the opposing, more cautious viewpoint, The Lonely Island links with Adam Levine and Kendrick Lamar for their musical rendition of “YOLO.” Featuring the expected blend of hilarious lyrics and video antics, the members of The Lonely Island draw attention to the deadly environment of our everyday lives, whilst Adam Lavine laying down soulful hymns and Kendrick Lamar giving a brief lesson on how to diversify your portfolio. Sweetening the deal, the comedic trio informs us at the end a new album will release later this year.
Nike’s Air Force 1 Downtown – the slimmed-down, low profile cousin of the regular Air Force 1 – returns in a new black on black Quickstrike release for February. Crafted from leather, the shoe features woven leather paneling at the toe box and sides with smooth leather taking care of the rest of the shoe. Crafted with the utmost attention to detail, this Quickstrike release is bound to go quick. These will be dropping alongside the camouflage Air Force 1s we showed you earlier. Look for these starting February 2 at select retailers.
Iron Man seems to be the inspiration behind this latest Nike Air Force 1 Downtown colorway. Following the black woven and white and black camouflage models seen earlier, we’ve got a look at this “Flat Gold/Varsity Red” colorway. The gold toebox, side and heel paneling complement the metallic front and rear quarters and tongue, giving these shoes a sporty, varsity vibe. Offsetting all the metallic elements are a simple white midsole and gum outsole. Like the previously seen Air Force 1 Downtown’s these will be releasing on February 2 at select retailers.
The Dead Space franchise is set to return this spring with the new Dead Space 3 and it looks to be another hit if the launch trailer is anything to go by. This latest installment sees Isaac Clarke marooned on the frozen planet of Tau Volantis as he tries to fight off the Necromorph threat alongside new character John Carver. With new controls that make game play more organic, Dead Space 3 looks to be a significant improvement over its predecessor and we cant wait to try it out. Check out the trailer and let us know what you think.
The brilliant and entertaining street art of Oakoak just gets better. Here’s the latest piece from the French artist which was inspired by one of the most memorable scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining.
The official line-up for the 2013 Governer’s Ball on Randall’s Island, New York has been announced with Kanye West, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar leading the Hip-Hop pack. Other headliners include Kings of Leon, Feist, The xx, Miss Erykah Badu, Miguel, Gary Clark, Jr. and Azealia Banks along with a slew of others. We’re pretty impressed with the diversity of selection, and with one major act still TBA the festival is looking like a dope three-day event for music heads of all tastes. Not to be out shined by the musical draws, the NYC food truck line-up promises to keep festival-goers nourished at a much more delicious rate than most events of this caliber, which for some of you might be reason enough to cop tickets on its own. For more information including full line-up, vendor listings, and ticket options, head over to the official festival site.

Over the weekend Rone, Meggs, Wonderlust, Sofles, Roachi and Numskull got together for Australia Day and spent the afternoon creating a massive mural in Melbourne. The Australian crew of Artists painted this beautiful new piece on Hosier Lane which reads Once Bitten Twice Shy.

The largely untold history of grime in our nation’s capital gets some much-deserved light in the forthcoming documentary The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan. As the title suggests, the film follows the legacy of Washington, DC graf legend Cool “Disco” Dan, whose ubiquitous tag marked the streets of an increasingly crime-ridden city at the height of the 1980s crack era. Using the street Artist’s rise to underworld infamy to explore the city that would become known as Murder Capital, USA, The Legend of Cool “Disco” Dan highlights both the creativity of the city’s emerging go-go scene and the destruction wreaked experienced by a city caught up in an epidemic of violence. Punk legend and music historian Henry Rollins lends his narrative touch, while filmmakers Joseph Pattisal and Roger Gastman (the producer behind Banksy documentary Exit Through The Gift Shop) interview various street hustlers and musicians from the heyday of DC’s most infamous era. If the history of graffiti itself isn’t quite your jam, commentary provided by go-go pioneer Chuck Brown and the notorious former Mayor himself Marion Barry, amongst others, makes for a compelling feature for graf heads and general audiences alike. Check out the trailer below, and if you’re in the Maryland/DC area, you can catch the world premier of the film on February 23rd at the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring, MD.
D.I.T.C. crew leader Lord Finesse got his turn to be featured on Fuse TV’s show Crate Diggers, where producers get the chance to show off their vinyl collections and go in-depth on the records they’ve sampled. In this episode Finesse discusses his work with the Notorious B.I.G. among other illustrious collaborations. He also speaks at length on the sheer volume of records he owns and how the collection is organized. This exercise in superdeep music nerdery is strategically-timed of course, since Lord Finesse’s treasure trove of beats has recently been at the center of a lawsuit against Mac Miller over the use of his “Hip 2 Da Game” beat. Personally, I find it a little selfish for an artist to be suing another over a mixtape track, no matter how great your legacy. But whatever your opinion on rapper-on-rapper litigation, you can check the video below and get seriously schooled on some vital Hip-Hop History.
Getting older and seeing the things you used to love as a kid coming back as throwbacks is a bit of a trip. But I would be lying if I said that I don’t mind the influx of 80′s and 90′s nostalgia that’s been brewing over the last few years. Take DJ Soul‘s latest mix, FILA x TMNT, for example. Inspired by a collaboration between the shoe brand and the crime fighting, sewer-dwelling Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, DJ Soul has crafted a mix that shows just how ubiquitous the two iconic brands were in pop culture back in the day.
Please be aware that this mix does indeed contain Vanilla Ice’s infamous “Ninja Rap.” You’ve been warned.

This past weekend, 9th Wonder‘s Jamla Army hooked up with Big K.R.I.T. for a pretty big collabo. With 9th behind the boards, K.R.I.T. hooks up with Rapsody and Heather Victoria for this new joint called “Gettin’ Mine.” Krizzle done came up, listen to him detail his life on top, below. Let’s hope there are more Cinematic x Jamla collabos to come from this session.
Gotham Fucking City, a track off last year’s K.O.N.Y. mixtape which features Joey Bada$$, Harlem rapper Smoke DZA drops some visuals for the track which uses an old Dilla beat. The black-and-white clip was directed by A.V. Rockwell, and it’s all grey clouds with no silver lining of any kind in sight. Considering the recent suicide of Pro Era fam, Capital STEEZ, the end has an eerie connection to real life.
Harlem emcee Kyle Rapps and Queens native Action Bronson take us through a tour of classic and contemporary paintings and modern media moments through this new video for “Get It In.” Everything from the Jesus to Shaft get the photoshop treatment with Kyle and Bronson’s faces superimposed in rap mode. Video directed by Robbie Barclay. “Get It In” will be on Kyle’s upcoming mixtape, SUB, which is set to drop this Spring.
Returning to celebrate the 23-year anniversary of the original silhouette and last seen in 2008 alongside the Air Jordan 18 as part of a Countdown Pack from Jordan Brand, the White/Fire Red-Black colorway of the Air Jordan 5 is set to return this very month. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, inspired by the WWII Mustang fighter plane and worn by “His Airness” on his way to a fourth-straight NBA scoring title in 1990, the 2013 retro appears sans embroidered “23″ branding and features a smooth white leather upper alongside translucent mesh overlays, an icy translucent blue outsole, a reflective 3M tongue and a combination of black and red accents throughout. The White/Fire Red-Black Air Jordan 5 is set to make its way to Jordan Brand retailers on January 26, 2013, for $160 USD.
Following on the success of the first G.I. Joe film and the revival of the Hasbro toy franchise, March 29th will see the release of G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Featuring an ensemble cast that with a pedigree in action movies, Retaliation welcomes Bruce Willis and Dwayne Johnson, who join Channing Tatum, Arnold Vosloo, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce and Lee Byung-hun. Directed by Jon M. Chu, whose work has curiously enough, revolved around his dance background (see Step Up 2 and Step Up 3D), the film looks like it will feature some pretty awesome fight choreography, aside from the prerequisite big guns and explosions the first movie wowed audiences with.
