The science fiction film finds Earth taking a last stand against monsters residing deep in the ocean, using abandoned technology and two untrained pilots to lead the path to survival. Fresh into a newly appointed spot on Vans‘ vast roster of amateur shredders, Kyle Walker has released a part via Thrasher Magazine. The fast-paced edit finds Walker making several blunt statements in favor of handrails, drifting down stair sets with comfort to spare. Su Young Choi gets editing credits for this piece, which serves as a nice transition from Walker’s part in Since Day One and his presumed section in the upcoming Vans video. Daft Punk remix for all you obsessives and collectors, not to mention DJs who felt the single version of “Get Lucky lacked “thump.” Drop Out Orchestra from Sweden have decided to be next in line to put their own spin on the single. Their version seems to amp it up with subtle and light variations. A few drums added here and there give it some more oomp. There are classic DJ effects such as the occasional reverb blast but don’t expect to hear a bass drop. While it’s not drastically different than the original, it’s an enjoyable pumped up flip which I could imagine will be getting a lot of burn in clubs soon. Stream the remix below.

Wu-Tang Clan has just released a new track today titled, “Execution in Autumn.” Produced by Frank Dukes, the cut sees Inspectah Deck, Rae, RZA and U-God flowing into the bars in a typical Wu way. “Bird’s Eye View” definitely isn’t an easy single to follow up on, but DJ Statik Selektah shows he’s got plenty of heat to dish out with another banger off his upcoming Extended Play album. Statik gets some help from Sean Price and Mac Miller for some music not meant for minors, or as Styles so eloquently puts it in the sample “If you’re under 21 you shouldn’t listen to this.” Sean P hammers in this point “Listen to me, you better not listen to me, fuck around and catch a case tryna be like P.” And Mac Miller closes things out with a far more legal but still dope verse over Statik’s hard hitting production. Extended Play will be out June 18th via Duck Down/Showoff.

Tom Hanks returns to the screen this fall in Captain Phillips, a high-seas thriller based on the true story of the MV Maersk Alabama, which was hijacked by Somalian pirates in 2009. Directed by Paul Greengrass who also helmed both the Bourne Trilogy and United 93, he would seem a fitting choice to handle the background story which depicts the harrowing first hostile takeover of an American cargo vessel in two hundred years. Tom Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips, who also wrote several books after the ordeal. Look forward to Captain Phillips when it hits theaters October 13.

Putting another notch in its foray into extreme sports, Red Bull celebrated its affinity for fixed-gear freestyle with the Red Bull Ride + Style Fixed-Gear Competition this year at Justin Herman Plaza, San Francisco. At its third year, international riders, including the likes of Matt Reyes, Jonathan Davis, Elliott Milner, took to the ramp, gearing up and hitting the embellished course with artwork from INSA, Tristan Eaton, RISK and local artist Sam Flores. Merging graffiti and fixed-gear culture respectively, the event is another cornerstone for street culture enthusiasts and Red Bull’s on-point approach in showcasing talent from across the wide world of extreme sports.

Sandra Bullock and George Clooney team-up in the upcoming space thriller Gravity. Set in a modern era, the story revolves around two respective astronauts on a space walk who are caught in the middle of a storm of debris. The ensuing damage to leaves them detached from their vessel, floating aimlessly away and contemplating their survival. The movie is set to hit the silver screen on October 4, 2013.
