With Kobe Bryant surpassing Michael Jordan’s all-time scoring spot, the NBA rolls out this clip featuring the two legends going head-to-head, dubbed “Duel of Icons.” The clip takes a look back at highlights of their head to head match-ups over the years. Take a look and let us know which player you think has the advantage.
Almost a year ago, 18-year-old Youssef Hannoun put together a highly viral compilation clip featuring a direct comparison between Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. A recent follow-up has made its rounds across the Internet showing two of the greatest players ever to step on the hardwood in further eerily similar fashion. As a huge fan of Kobe Bryant, watching every game since 07-08 on TV, many of the Los Angeles Laker’s movements became etched into the back of Hannoun’s mind who would later cross-reference them with Youtube clips of Jordan in his heyday.
Who’s the greatest NBA player of all-time? That question has been an on-going debate for years, with many believing the great Michael Jordan currently holds the title. But, ever since Kobe Bryant emerged as an NBA superstar in the early 2000’s, during the Lakers’ Three-peat run, led by Shaquille O’Neal, the argument has come into question. While Kobe still has some years left in his career and things he can still accomplish, when it’s all said and done, will he be considered the G.O.A.T.? Can he take the title from Jordan?
The debate is likely to rage on for years to come, so for now, check out this fan-made clip, showing both NBA stars in a series of nearly identical plays, from fadeaways to jumpshots to dunks.
What’s your take? Who’s the greatest?
Celebrated Korean toymaker and artist Coolrain offers a suitable homage to this year’s 2012 Dream Team with two series of action figures. Three particular high-profile and now 2012 gold medal-winning athletes in Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James are placed front and center and appropriated through Coolrain’s signature style.
Christmas day usually provides new editions, colourways or twists of basketball sneakers and this year was no different. December 25 was of course a special day this year, not least because we got to see the Christmas Air Max LeBron VII’s and Chaos edition of the Zoom Kobe V. Kobe and Lebron were both rocking their respective pairs for the first time ever on the NBA court. Both basketball sneakers feature Nike’s much coveted fly-wire, and both come in fairly outspoken colourways inspired by the players’ teams, and both sparked an outbreak of hype on Christmas Day.
With 55 percent of the vote, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant edged out San Antonio’s Tim Duncan in an informal Sporting News poll.
Of course that could have a lot to do with Bryant’s recent success, the popularity of the team he plays for, etc., but it’s still a nice honor.
The article, written by the excellent Sean Deveney, has a really interesting quote from Shaquille O’Neal on Bryant.
“The thing about Kobe is that, over the course of my career, I have never played with anyone who was as fierce as he is,” O’Neal said. “By fierce I mean just having that extra killer instinct that you know when the game is on the line he is not going to shy away from the big shot, he is not going to make excuses. If we would go into the fourth quarter, playoffs or just some game in the season and we were within a little bit of the other team, Kobe was not going to shy away from the challenge of getting the win. He was going to take the shots.”
